Senator SCHACHT (Minister for Small Business, Customs and Construction) (4.17 p.m.) —That is not the matter in this bill. Senator Spindler has raised questions that will be part of a debate on another bill that will be coming in here, in relation to the process of the sale of AIDC. As he is aware, there is some considerable debate about the parameters of that sale—how it is to be structured—as he has just raised. That is not what this bill is about.

Initially, the amendment in this bill was to allow, in accordance with previous government decisions, the reduction of Commonwealth ownership of AIDC from something around 80 per cent to 51 per cent. Now that the government has announced that it is looking at the sale of AIDC completely—and the process of that sale is yet to be determined—that is a separate issue. I do not have the brief in front of me about the question Senator Spindler asked because it is not a matter that this bill is dealing with. I have asked for some information, but I ask for the honourable senator's indulgence because I think we should not debate that aspect of the sale of the AIDC as it is not relevant to this bill.
