Senator WATSON (12.03 p.m.) —I thank the minister for his comments. I am a little unclear as to the nature of the Treasurer's response to my request about the sort of overview or examination or review that the ISC may have had in relation to these bills before they were presented to the Senate. I think it is important that, certainly in future, the ISC examine these bills in depth because it is a departure from the normal procedure in this Senate. Most of the superannuation legislation came through Treasury with the backgrounding from the ISC. I want to make sure that that situation has been followed in relation to this legislation. If not, it certainly should be followed in relation to all future legislation which seeks to adopt the prudential standards of the SIS within Commonwealth sector schemes.
