Senator SHERRY (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Primary Industries and Energy) (11.10 a.m.) —As I indicated earlier, the superannuation package negotiated at state level was endorsed by the parliament as part of the overall package. The Democrats voted for it—to be fair, reluctantly, and I acknowledge that. I do not believe it is proper—it may be politic—for the opposition then to transfer the argument here and attempt to reopen those negotiations if it is not happy with them. For that reason, the government is not prepared to see the matter adjourned. It believes that the agreement, whatever it is, has been dealt with at a state level and we are not prepared to override that agreement. The package has been presented. It has been agreed to by the South Australian government—both the past government and the current government—and we are not prepared to enter into a rearrangement of that agreement.
