Senator FAULKNER (Minister for the Environment, Sport and Territories) (10.20 a.m.) —I thank Senator Vanstone and Senator Spindler for their contributions to this second reading debate. First of all, the last two concerns Senator Spindler mentioned I will raise directly with the Minister for Justice (Mr Kerr) and ask him to communicate with Senator Spindler as this matter progresses before the committee stage. The Minister for Justice proposes to make a formal response to the concerns expressed about the FOI act in advance of the committee stage. We are not, as honourable senators know, proceeding to the committee stage now. I will ask the minister also to address the two concerns Senator Spindler mentioned at the conclusion of his contribution. Again, I thank honourable senators for their contributions to the debate on this piece of legislation.

  Question resolved in the affirmative.

  Bill read a second time.

Ordered that consideration of the bill in committee of the whole be an order of the day for the next day of sitting.
