(Question No. 1209)

Senator Patterson asked the Minister representing the Minister for Transport, upon notice, on 8 March 1994:

  (1) Does the department, or any of its agencies, produce electoral profiles (or other like documents) outlining relevant programs, services or other forms of assistance provided in individual federal electorates; if so, when were these electoral profiles (or other like documents) first produced and how frequently are they produced.

  (2) Is a copy of these electoral profiles (or other like documents) provided to the Parliamentary Library; if not, why not.

  (3) Please provide a copy of the most up-to-date edition of each of these electoral profiles (or other like documents) for all federal electorates to the Parliamentary library.

Senator Collins —The Minister for Transport has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

  (1) No. The Department prepares ad hoc briefs for the Minister for Transport on particular portfolio issues, including programs and services, that are relevant to individual federal electorates. The briefs would normally coincide with a visit by the Minister to the electorate(s) concerned.

  (2) & (3) As the information is provided for the Minister's use in the form of normal Ministerial briefing, it would be inappropriate to provide the material to the Parliamentary library.
