(Question No. 1208)

Senator Patterson asked the Minister representing the Minister for Industrial Relations, upon notice, on 8 March 1994:

  (1) Does the Department, or any of its agencies, produce electoral profiles (or other like documents) outlining relevant programs, services or other forms of assistance provided in individual federal electorates; if so, when were these electoral profiles (or other like documents) first produced and how frequently are they produced.

  (2) Is a copy of these electoral profiles (or other like documents) provided to the Parliamentary Library; if not, why not.

  (3) Please provide a copy of the most up-to-date edition of each of these electoral profiles (or other like documents) for all federal electorates to the Parliamentary Library.

Senator Robert Ray —The Minister for Industrial Relations has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

  (1) The department prepares briefs for the Minister on an ad hoc basis when he visits individual electorates, informing him of a range of current portfolio matters relevant to the visits. These briefs contain information about the department's programs, services or other forms of assistance where that is relevant.

  (2) The briefs are for the Minister's information and each brief is prepared for a specific visit. They are not documents which would be appropriate to provide to the Parliamentary Library.

  (3) See 2 above.
