(Question No. 1161)

Senator Bell asked the Minister for Health, upon notice, on 4 March 1994:

  (1) What is Australia's international approach in relation to tobacco and health.

Senator Crowley —The Minister for Human Services and Health has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

Australia's international commitments regarding tobacco and health are determined by both the influential roles it has taken within international health forums and by its obligations through membership of or involvement with international bodies. The Federal Government is always mindful of its international treaties and obligation in framing its national policies and programs for tobacco and health.
