Senator Newman asked the Minister representing the Minister for Social Security, upon notice, on 1 March 1994:

  (1) What did the department spend on assertiveness training courses during the 1992/93 and 1993/94 financial years.

  (2) How many: (a) men; and (b) women, attended those courses.

Senator Crowley —The Minister for Social Security has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

  Data have been obtained from available records. In some cases, precise data are not available and the following figures include some estimation. Figures for 1993/94 are up to March 1994.

  (1) 1992/93—$360,000; 1993/94—$307,000.

  (2) (a) 1992/93—950 men; 1993/94—820 men.

  (b) 1992/93—1790 women; 1993/94—1360 women.
