Senator Newman asked the Minister representing the Prime Minister, upon notice, on 1 March 1994:

  (1) What did the department spend on assertiveness training courses during the 1992-93 and 1993-94 financial years.

  (2) How many: (a) men; and (b) women, attended those courses.


Senator Gareth Evans —The Prime Minister has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

  (1) The Department spent $1,572.00 on assertiveness training courses during the 1992-93 financial year, and has spent $2,213.75 on such courses during the 1993-94 financial year to date.

  (2) (a) Two men attended assertiveness training courses during the 1992-93 financial year, and five men have attended such courses during the 1993-94 financial year to date.

  (b) Eight women attended assertiveness training courses during the 1992-93 financial year, and eight women have attended such courses during the 1993-94 financial year to date.
