Senator SPINDLER (8.24 p.m.) —The Australian Democrats' next amendment is No. 10, which stands in my name. This amendment is necessary because the bill fails to address provision of receipt for things which are seized and removed from the premises after a search. The provision of a receipt is an essential safeguard for the occupier. Thus the amendment provides that a receipt must be provided regardless of whether the occupier requests it or not. It must state the full description of the things seized and a report of their condition. We believe that this will minimise disputes which may arise when the time comes for the goods to be returned.
