Senator VANSTONE (8.12 p.m.) —People feel threatened if the police visit their houses and ask them questions. Most people do not know whether they are obliged to answer. Under ignorance and/or stress, they answer inappropriately and not in their own interest. Senator Spindler has said that it gives them the opportunity to give an answer. They have that opportunity at any time if proceedings are issued against them. They have plenty of opportunity to put their view at a time of their choosing with proper legal advice.
