Senator WEST —by leave—The Standing Committee on Community Affairs is one of the few committees that actually had their annual report in on time. For that I think we should be congratulated. I also want to mention a matter that was referred to the committee on 25 November in a preliminary report to the Senate on the validation of nursing home funding. The committee planned to make a further report to the Senate at the end of the first parliamentary session of this year. That decision was reached when we thought that the first session would finish in June. Of course, that is not now the case.

We wish to advise the Senate that the Australian National Audit Office and the Ombudsman's office are currently working on validation issues. The committee has therefore decided that it will review the need for further inquiry during the winter budget session and will report again to the Senate prior to the end of that session.
