Senator ABETZ —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

(i)the Federal Labor Government's attack on the autonomy of the States by slashing funds to the States in a bid to rein in its own irresponsible and deplorable deficit,

(ii)that the State of Tasmania, under the premiership of Mr Ray Groom and Treasurer Mr Tony Rundle, has been returned to fiscal responsibility by making the necessary financial decisions which the Federal Labor Government has been too weak to undertake for itself,

(iii)that the last Tasmanian budget delivered by Liberal Treasurer, Mr Rundle, won the Institute of Public Affairs award for the most responsible budget,

(iv)that the Honourable Member for Blaxland, the now Prime Minister (Mr Keating), acknowledged in his maiden speech that `the standard of living that people enjoy varies in accordance with what government services are available to them', a fact he has consistently ignored in order to cover-up his own fiscal mis-management, and

(v)that the proposed distribution of funds will leave Tasmania worse off after having suffered cuts of 30 per cent in real terms in the past decade of Federal Labor Government; and

(b)therefore calls on the Federal Labor Government to take responsibility for funding its deceitful election promises instead of slashing state funding.
