Senator NEWMAN —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)notes the promises made during the past 12 months by the Minister for Health (Senator Richardson) to encourage the retention of private health insurance, to act on elective surgery queues, to improve Aboriginal health outcomes, to double medical research funding, to address the imbalance in funding for breast cancer research, to implement the minimum pricing policy for drugs and to tighten tuberculosis health checks and follow-ups for migrants;

  (b)recognises that the resignation of Senator Richardson as the Minister for Health puts the fulfilment of these pledges in serious doubt;

  (c)deplores the Minister's decision to jump ship before any of these promises has been implemented; and

  (d)calls on the Government to ensure that these promises to the Australian people are honoured urgently.
