Senator CHAMARETTE —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

    (i)the resolution of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Commission regarding Bougainville,

    (ii)that the human rights situation on Bougainville shows little sign of improving,

    (iii)that the resolution identified extra-judicial executions and torture as two aspects of particular concern, and

    (iv)that the resolution called on the Papua New Guinea (PNG) Government to invite UN special rapporteurs to investigate violations of human rights on Bougainville;

  (b)condemns the PNG Defence Force for the continuing human rights violations on Bougainville; and

  (c)calls on the Australian Government:

    (i)to use its influence with the PNG Government to encourage the latter to issue such an invitation, and

    (ii)to cease all defence co-operation with the PNG Defence Force until the UN special rapporteurs have carried out an investigation and have reported.
