Senator NEWMAN —Is the Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs able to confirm today's newspaper report that at least 70 members of the ruling political party in Vanuatu are expected to travel to Tripoli within the next few weeks? If so, can the Minister say whether reports reaching the Government indicate that this group is likely to undergo weapons training and instruction in political propaganda techniques? Is the Government concerned at this further development of Libyan interest in the Pacific region?

Senator GARETH EVANS —I have no further information on that matter other than what appeared in the Press. I will take it on notice and see what further information it is possible to provide in the near future.
