Senator CHANEY (Leader of the Opposition)(4.18) —I do not know what purpose is served by that. Private industry is also caught up in the reporting process. One might say that a more proper comparison can be made between Telecom Australia and Broken Hill Proprietary Co. Ltd than Telecom and, say, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. In the interests of people knowing what is going on in this area, I ask why it is that a procedure that is perfectly acceptable for the private sector is not acceptable for public trading corporations, particularly, given the conversion that has undergone the Government, as we are likely to see them privatised in the near future. I would have thought that the Minister, given the predilection of her Government for selling off the family silver, as demonstrated in the lead-up to the mini-Budget, might well want to see greater uniformity between the private sector and these great public trading corporations.
