Senator GIETZELT —Yesterday Senator Knowles asked me a question without notice concerning the handover of the coastal surveillance contract from Skywest Airlines Pty Ltd to Amann Aviation. I pointed out at that time that I had no brief in the information provided to me by the Minister for Transport and Minister for Aviation. The Minister has now advised me that the contract currently held by Skywest expires on 30 June 1987, but Amann has until mid-September, under the terms of the contract, to have its operation completely in place. Negotiations have commenced between the Department of Transport and Skywest for it to continue providing coastal surveillance services, phasing out progressively as Amann's operation is put into effect. A definite schedule for commencement of Amann's operations in Darwin, Gove, Cairns and Broome has not yet been finalised.
