Senator CROWLEY —My question is directed to the Minister representing the Attorney-General. The Minister will be aware of recent changes in the Australian Capital Territory ordinances regarding domestic violence and its management, which seem to be drawing considerable support from the community. Can he say whether discussions between the Federal Government and the State governments on this matter are either proposed or under way? Are any steps being taken to move to uniformity between the States with regard to the management of domestic violence, and especially to determine whether the Australian Capital Territory changes are optimal to manage this wholly unacceptable occurrence of domestic violence in this country?

Senator GARETH EVANS —If that is a dorothy dixer, it is one about which I do not know. I will have to seek further instructions from the Attorney-General.
