Senator HILL —My question is directed to the Minister representing the Minister for Foreign Affairs. Does Chairman Arafat's reconciliation with the most extreme elements of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, which according to Arab sources quoted by the British Sunday Times is likely to result in a `summer of violence' in the Middle East, affect the Australian Government's call for an international conference on the Middle East and for participation of the Palestine Liberation Organisation in such a conference?

Senator GARETH EVANS —I cannot imagine that it would, but I will seek a comment from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, if he chooses to make one.
