Senator GARETH EVANS (Minister for Resources and Energy)(11.29) —My consultations with the industry make me believe that there will be undoubtedly sufficient interest in the area to enable our aspirations to be satisfied. Of course, industry does not like restrictions of the kind imposed-that is, that not just any commercially viable mine will be allowed to proceed but that criteria of national significance will have to be satisfied as well as very stringent environmental ones. I acknowledge that the industry has an understandable concern about this.
