Senator TATE (Special Minister of State)(6.21) —What I intended to say-in deference to Senator Jessop because I know he has taken a very real interest in a matter of great importance to parliamentarians, namely, who should control the Parliament and its precincts-is that I nevertheless think it would be premature for the Senate to make any determination on the amendment which he has proposed. We should particularly await the reaction and advice of the Presiding Officers, who obviously have a very prominent role in the scheme envisaged by Senator Jessop and also, I take it, from the Joint Committee on the New Parliament House, the report to which he refers. On that basis, I would have thought that the debate should now be adjourned. I seek leave to continue my remarks later.
