Senator REID —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) noting with concern that under the Federal Labor Government's Medicare system the Australian people have not received an adequate health service providing a range of services, as previously available;

(b) noting that according to the Economic Planning Advisory Council increased health expenditure has occurred under recent Labor Governments (expenditure having grown rapidly between 1973-74 and 1984-85); and

(c) noting that this is in direct conflict with the Fraser years when costs fell substantially but a greater level of services were available,

calls upon the Government to rationalise health expenditure and ensure that the Government's Medicare system does in fact provide adequate health care for all Australians who expect to be covered by it.
