Senator VIGOR —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) welcomes the Prime Minister's (Mr Hawke's) belated announcement that the Federal Government will not bring back the defeated ABC/SBS merger legislation;

(b) welcomes the restoration in the supplementary appropriations of the $1m snatched from both the SBS and the ABC on the spurious pretext of being immediate amalgamation savings;

(c) calls upon the Government to restore its earlier decision to establish a Special Broadcasting Corporation by passing the Independent and Multicultural Broadcasting Corporation Bill 1986 currently on the Senate Notice Paper; and

(d) urges the Government not to try once again this year to invent and mischievously promote disingenuous grounds for cutting funds to multicultural broadcasting.
