Senator SIDDONS —My question is directed to the Minister representing the Minister for Communications. Will the Government advise the media industry on the proposed ownership rules to accompany the Broadcasting Act and so allay the fears of regional television stations with regard to ownership levels? Given that the unfolding drama at HSV7 in Melbourne is making regional television stations very jumpy because they see themselves as being in a worse position to combat networking, especially if the 75 per cent ownership rule is accepted by the Government, when will the Government advise the percentage of ownership level it intends to bring in?

Senator WALSH —I am not able to give a definitive answer to the question--

Senator Button —Mr Duffy is to make a statement this week.

Senator WALSH —Senator Button has just reminded me, but I was about to say it anyway, that Mr Duffy will be making a statement in the near future; Senator Button tells me probably this week. Whether it will cover all of that detail I do not know but I suggest that Senator Siddons wait until the statement is made. If it does not cover the detail that he seeks, I will try to obtain if from Mr Duffy.
