Senator WATSON(12.05) —Clause 16, I believe, runs contrary to an undertaking which was given by a Minister in this place. I will quote from Hansard of 18 February 1986. Senator Walsh said:

The Government does not propose to limit logging in the area beyond the limits already proposed in the Tasmanian Forestry Commission's 1983 management plan.

Clause 16 runs counter and contrary to that undertaking given in this place in a considered response by the Minister for Finance, Senator Walsh, in answer to a question which was placed on notice. In relation to whether it had a wilderness value he said:

I am advised this is not specifically a registered value for this area but it is a wilderness buffer or remote zone.
