Senator NEWMAN(11.15) —As I have already drawn attention to the Minister's so-called record on civil liberties, he should find it very hard to sleep straight in bed at night if he thinks about his response. It is quite disgraceful that, on the grounds of expediency and expedition, he rides roughshod over the rights of citizens in an area as vital as their legal rights in terms of self-incrimination. I am appalled. How dare he call himself a civil libertarian and give me the answer that he just did.
