Senator TATE (Special Minister of State) —I seek leave to make a personal explanation.

Leave granted.

Senator TATE —During an exchange with Senator Harradine-and just to ensure that this is in the Hansard-the honourable senator did not respond to my claim that a remark he made was the most offensive that he had made about my stance on certain matters. In answer to his misrepresentation of the campaign outlined in the statement of the Minister for Health (Dr Blewett) I had said that the program had three elements, abstinence, safe sex with a single partner and then the use of a condom in the absence of either of the first two. Somehow, the honourable senator derived from that that I was a supporter of, advocate of and was not worried by the distribution of pornographic films. I find that leap impossible to derive from my previous statement. It does not bear any relation to the truth of my stance in relation to the distribution of pornographic films. I found it very offensive that he should make that assertion, as it is a complete non sequitur from my remarks about the three elements of the campaign.
