(Question No. 1515)

Senator Archer asked the Minister representing the Special Minister of State, upon notice, on 13 November 1986:

(1) What is the estimated backlog of unprocessed material at the ABCI in time and/or quantity.

(2) What methods are in hand to eliminate the backlog and to make the information of full practical use.

Senator Tate —The answer to the honourable senators' question is as follows:

Under the Intergovernmental Agreement on the ABCI, the management of the ABCI is the responsibility of the Director and the Management Committee to which he reports. The Management Committee determines the workload. The Management Committee in turn reports to the Chairman of the Australian Police Ministers' Council (APMC). In view of these arrangements it would be inappropriate for the Special Minister of State as the Commonwealth representatives on the APMC to be answering questions on the day to day operations of the ABCI.
