(Question No. 1512)

Senator Archer asked the Minister representing the Special Minister of State, upon notice, on 13 November 1986:

During the 1985-86 Budget preparations, did the Special Minister of State, any member of his staff, or any departmental staff advise that `the ADDB funding through the 1985-86 Budget could not be countenanced.'

Senator Tate —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

As indicated in the answer to Question on Notice No. 1511, additional resources of the order of $1.5m have been provided by the Commonwealth. This funding commitment was announced by the Government as part of the Drug Summit initiatives which were authorised by Cabinet before the 1985-86 Budget was finalised. Specific Cabinet authorisation is necessary for the inclusion of funds for such initiatives in Departmental budget estimates.
