(Question No. 1499)

Senator Archer asked the Minister representing the Special Minister of State, upon notice, on 13 November 1986:

Has the Government attempted to renegotiate the ABCI Agreement so that the States would have to pay two-thirds of the cost of the permanent administrative staff; if so, why, and what was the reaction of the States to the suggestion from the Federal Government.

Senator Tate —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

The Australian Police Ministers' Council agreed in December 1986 to an examination of cost-sharing options as part of its further consideration of the Australian Drug Data Base project. These options would not encompass permanent administrative staff.
