Senator Archer asked the Minister representing the Special Minister of State, upon notice, on 23 October 1986:

(1) What requests have been made by the Police Ministers' Council for adequate support staff for the ABCI.

(1) If such requests have been made-

(a) when were they made; and

(b) what numbers were requested.

Senator Tate —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

(1) and (2) On 25 November 1983 the Australian Police Ministers' Council (APMC) requested the Commonwealth to provide the necessary financial support for the continued development of the ABCI involving staffing proposals for five positions. On 22 January 1986 the Chairman, APMC, wrote to my predecessor concerning resources for the drug database project. A total of ten positions was involved.
