Senator CHANEY (Leader of the Opposition) —I seek leave to move a motion to take note of your statement, Mr President.

Leave granted.

Senator CHANEY —I move:

That the Senate take note of the statement.

Although I do not wish to make a speech about the matter now, I would like to acknowledge the very careful work which has been done in the Senate Department to try to ensure that we are given the most appropriate computer assistance and information systems. I wish on behalf of the Opposition to acknowledge that. I could also perhaps give notice that there might be some interest in following up this matter in the Estimates committee hearings. Some detailed questions could then be raised that could not appropriately be dealt now. It may well be that, following the Estimates committee hearings and any questioning that is undertaken, we might wish to bring this up as a matter of general business and look at this statement which you have put down. I seek leave to continue my remarks later.

Leave granted; debate adjourned.
