Senator GIETZELT (Minister for Veterans' Affairs)(5.48) —In response to Senator Newman, the position as I understand it is that the High Court of Australia in the Tasmanian dams case found that the part of the so-called Federal clause in the World Heritage Convention which is relevant to Australia is Article 34 (a) because the Federal Government has the constitutional power to give effect to the Convention. I think that that is the response that Senator Newman is seeking.
