Senator VIGOR —I refer the Minister representing the Prime Minister to recent national advertising headed `Expression of Views on the Roles, Functions and Priorities for the Advisory Council and the Office' which related to the Advisory Council on Multicultural Affairs and the Office of Multicultural Affairs. How much has the Government spent to date on advertising and recruitment in relation to the Office of Multicultural Affairs? Has the Government yet decided on either the general structure or the state of the Office of Multicultural Affairs and, if not, when are these details likely to emerge? Why is the Government only now seeking written submissions on the role and functions of the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Advisory Council on Multicultural Affairs? Is the Government at fault and in a policy vacuum on multiculturalism, or is this another example of the sloth within the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet which led to the problems in the Australian Bicentennial Authority and to the unlawful problems associated with the running down of the Advisory Council for Inter-government Relations?

Senator BUTTON —I do not know the answer to that question. I ask Senator Vigor to put it on notice.
