Senator JONES —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) notes that the Queensland Government, through amendments to its Land Act 1962-84 presented to the State Parliament at 6 p.m. on Thursday, 19 March 1987 by the Lands Minister (Mr Glasson), has announced its intention to convert the present leases on the tourist islands on the Great Barrier Reef to freehold, thus giving the operators, many of whom are either members or supporters of the National Party, the opportunity to sub-divide sections of their islands at huge personal profit; and

(b) urges the Federal Government to pursue with all possible vigour moves to block this cynical grab by invoking World Heritage legislation to protect the interests of all Australians.
