Senator HARRADINE(3.22) —I move:

That the adjourned debate be made an order of the day for the next day of sitting.

I take this opportunity to indicate that I understand what has been said about the difficulties that are experienced by members of this very important Committee, the Joint Committee of Public Accounts. It would be important to ensure that, whatever occurs, no precedent is set that would limit the opportunities of members of the Senate to participate in the affairs of this chamber, which I believe should be paramount. Senator Georges referred to the fact that very often there are very few senators in the chamber. That is very true. But, frankly, a senator is either preparing material or doing work in his office and has an ear on the loudspeaker, as I did just a while ago. I heard the debate and am now able to participate in it, although I am ranging a little wider in my remarks than the Standing Orders might permit. I just raise the point that that should be taken into account when consideration is being given to this matter.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
