Senator Archer asked the Minister representing the Attorney-General, upon notice, on 5 June 1986:

(1) How far has the former Mr Justice Watson proceeded in his investigation and review of Commonwealth criminal law.

(2) When does Mr Watson expect to complete his review.

(3) Does Mr Watson have instructions to deal with any, or all, of the matters covered in questions on Notice Nos. 836 to 881.

Senator Gareth Evans —The Attorney-General has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1) Mr Justice Watson presented an initial report of his review in July 1986. This report will now be considered by the recently announced expanded body set up to review the Commonwealth criminal law.

(2) The terms of reference for the expanded review body require it to report no later than 30 June 1988.
