Senator SANDERS —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) notes with alarm that the Federal Government is considering allowing the release of contaminated water from the Ranger Uranium Mine into the environment of Kakadu National Park;

(b) further notes that the Northern Land Council (on behalf of traditional owners) and the conservation movement have consistently opposed release of water to Magela Creek on the grounds that there is no proof that such an occurrence would not be detrimental, in the short or long term, to the wetlands of Kakadu National Park or to any other interests of traditional owners; and

(c) strongly opposes any plan to release contaminated water from the Ranger Uranium Mine into the environment of Kakadu National Park and urges the Government to direct Ranger to implement a `no-release' water management system for the life of the project.
