(Question No. 1611)


Senator Reid asked the Minister representing the Minister for Territories, upon notice, on 18 February 1987:

(1) If Watson High School is to become a boarding school, who will be eligible to attend from (a) the Australian Capital Territory (ACT); and (b) New South Wales.

(2) In the case of ACT students (a) what criteria will apply for selection of students; (b) will the school take the form of a refuge; (c) will there be a fee; if so, how much; (d) will there be some day students only; if so, from what catchment area will they be drawn.

(3) What are the proposed (a) capital costs; (b) running costs of such a boarding school.

(4) Will extra Government funds be required or will existing allocations to the ACT be used, thus reducing current funding.


Senator Gietzelt —The Minister for Territories has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1)-(4) The Government is yet to decide what alternative use will be made of Watson High School. A number of uses are under consideration.
