Senator ARCHER(7.11) —I draw attention to the fact that in the statement the Special Minister of State (Senator Tate) said that it is necessary to have investigations to come to a view regarding the future of the National Crime Authority. I believe that the Minister should be able to come to this conclusion fairly quickly. This matter is the subject of a Bill that I introduced into the Senate today. It is coincidental that the two things should come down together. It is very important that the staff of the Authority should know where they stand. We do not want to see people leaving the Authority and we want to be able to fill vacancies that occur. While ever we leave it in the air that we have not come to a view regarding the future of the Authority the position will be somewhat clouded.
