Senator POWELL(11.45) —I am pleased to have a Minister in the chamber at the moment who is prepared to answer our genuine concerns shown in these amendments. I thank the Minister for that. I point out that clause 44 (2) (b) reflects a concern which arose in an earlier amendment-which was lost-and the reference from the Secretary to the Advisory Committee relates to technical matters.

Senator Button —No, it does not. It says, `and such other matters'.

Senator POWELL —Certainly. The only other specific area referred to in this is technical. Another point which makes me a little uneasy about accepting totally the points made by the Minister on 44 (2) (a) is that a great deal of advice in general has been given on this legislation and obviously the Government is not taking that advice at this time. In the public interest it might be necessary to have something a little firmer in the legislation than what is there now.

Amendment negatived.

Clause agreed to.

Clause 35. (Revocation of plant variety rights).
