Senator RYAN (Minister for Education)(12.22) —I will answer Senator Mason's queries. The departmental secretary must be satisfied that the plant variety will perform as it performed overseas. If it does not and it gets a right, the variety will not be successful in the market-place. The present provision gives flexibility for the secretary to admit varieties from New Zealand with minimum delay.
