Senator GARETH EVANS (Minister for Resources and Energy)(7.29) — The proposed legislation has been widely publicised. It will be publicised further. The Australian Safeguards Office has written to every university in Australia about the terms of this legislation. The material has been circulated to physics departments in every such university. No department has yet responded saying that it does anything of a kind that would conceivably attract the operation of the legislation. We will, nonetheless, try hard to find someone who might conceivably be affected. If it appears that they might be, we will be very happy to give them a permit.
