Senator HARRADINE —Pursuant to standing order 408, I seek leave to make a personal explanation with respect to a publication.

Leave granted.

Senator HARRADINE —Some honourable senators will have received a hard cover book entitled A Baby, Maybe, published by Nugent-Smith Enterprises, which makes certain false allegations, including that I had referred to in vitro fertilisation pregnancies as second rate pregnancies and to children born as a result of IVF as second rate children. I find that accusation deeply hurtful, grossly offensive and highly defamatory. In both my private and public life I have sought to uphold the essential equality of all human beings at each stage of their development, and indeed that was a basis upon which my Human Embryo Experimentation Bill was founded.
