Senator CHANEY (Leader of the Opposition)(10.38) —It is perhaps unusual to have a number of speakers about someone who was not a member of this place and not a person who held high national office but I would very briefly wish to associate myself with the comments made by both Senator Jessop and Senator Townley. I think that the role of a person who might be described as a lobbyist or a representative of interests is very difficult and I thought that Ernest Marty was exemplary in his approach to his work. I had very great admiration for the way he provided information; he was always utterly straightforward and honest and I formed a considerable regard for him. I merely wish to support the comments that have been made by my colleagues and also to express my sympathy to his widow for the loss of a very fine man.
