Senator Mason asked the Minister representing the Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs, upon notice, on 19 November 1986:

(1) Was the Temple Society Trust Fund set up in 1949 to allocate funds resulting from the dissolution of the Temple Society in Palestine to ex-members of that society who had settled in Australia.

(2) What current activity does the statutory authority known as the Temple Society Trust Fund Advisory Committee pursue.

(3) Does the Committee submit annual reports; if not, why not.

(4) What have been the Committee's costs either to public revenue and/or to the Trust Fund for the past 2 financial years.


Senator Grimes —The Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1) Yes.

(2) All moneys standing to the credit of the Temple Society Trust Fund were distributed during the 1980-81 financial year. The Temple Society Trust Fund Advisory Committee has not been active since then.

(3) No, there has been no activity since 1980-81 on which to report.

(4) Nil.
