Senator MASON —Madam Acting Deputy President, I seek leave to make a personal explanation.

Leave granted.

Senator MASON —I noticed that in yesterday's Hansard, when Senator Maguire was in full flight on the Australia Card debate, he made this comment:

I recall that in 1983 some of the Australian Democrats-in fact, Senator Haines, Senator Mason and Senator Macklin-voted repeatedly with the Opposition to block legislation introduced by this Government to crack down on the so-called bottom of the harbour schemes.

A little later he commented:

Senator Haines, Senator Macklin and Senator Mason now want to vote as they did in 1983. They want to ally themselves with this discredited, carping, negative and knocking Opposition.

I merely wish to make the point that the Hansard record will show, if Senator Maguire wishes to look at it-this is something that most honourable senators would know-that in fact Senator Jack Evans and I for the Democrats supported the Government's bottom of the harbour legislation on that occasion.
