Senator BUTTON —On 4 December Senator Dame Margaret Guilfoyle asked me a question relating to reported remarks by the Secretary to the Treasury, Mr Bernard Fraser. That was based on Press reports of a speech given by Mr Fraser. I advise that I have received a letter from the Secretary to the Treasury, Mr Fraser, in which he refers to the reported remarks about his speech, I quote the relevant comments he made in answer to a question at the forum:

I believed the Budget time forecasts of a 6 1/4 per cent increase in earnings in 1986-87 would be adhered to;

He said further:

. . . such an increase was `broadly' in line with the average of our major trading partners, particularly when seen in the context of the very large depreciation of the $A.

The full text of the speech is available to me and if Senator Dame Margaret Guilfoyle wants a copy I will make it available to her.
