Senator WALTERS —The Minister representing the Minister for Arts, Heritage and Environment should be aware of a report in today's Hobart Mercury confirming Mr Jonathan West's appointment as consultant to the Minister for Arts, Heritage and Environment, and that Mr West is also director of the Wilderness Society which yesterday confirmed that it is technically bankrupt. As the Minister referred to Mr West as `my Tonto', will Senator Ryan inform the House whether Mr West draws any salary or expenses as a member of the Government's advisory committee on logging in Tasmania and the terms of the consultancy in relation to salary, arrangements for reimbursement of costs incurred, the requirement on Mr West's time, the conditions of his appointment and the terms of that appointment? Will the Minister table the agreement drawn up by the Minister for Arts, Heritage and Environment with Mr West setting out the terms and conditions of his consultancy?

Senator RYAN —I do not have the answers to any of those questions that Senator Walters asked, including the way in which the Minister addresses his consultant. As Senator Walters posed a set of detailed questions, I suggest that she put them on notice.
